Fried Crispy Calamari with Marinara Sauce

Last week when I was food shopping at the fishmonger store, I saw squid on sale.I seldom buy squid because I think it's take longer time to clean or prepared and the fishy smell is not really appetizing.Well, without thinking much I asked the fishmonger to get me 6 of the largest size squid.Squid is one of my favorite seafood beside shrimp,clam,crab and lobster.I seldom cook seafood for hubby but he really like fried calamari.Fried calamari or fried squid is a popular snack or appetizer sold in any Italian or American restaurant.This snack or appetizer doesn't needs much seasoning.Just some salt will do.


6 large squids,clean and cut ring
1 tsp salt

Coating:(mix in zip loc bag)

1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup rice flour
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp salt

1 cup canola oil
1 bottle of Marinara Sauce(any brand) heat up
1 nos lemon cut wedges

1:Clean and cut squids thoroughly.Mix some salt over the clean squid.Prepare oil in fryer or stock pot at high heat about 350 F.
2: Toss all the cut clean squid into the flour mixture zip loc bag,shake well.Make sure all the flour mixture cover all the squid.Remove coated squid from the flour,shake excess flour well.
3:Place coated squid into the fryer,fry for 15 minutes or until golden brown.Removed fried calamari from fryer to paper towel to drain the excess oil.
4:Scoop some marinara sauce into a small bowl and microwave for 1-2 minutes.Cut some lemon wedges.Serve fried calamari warm with lemon and marinara sauce.
