Pork and Oyster Congee/Porridge 稀饭

It's been a long time I didn't cook porridge or congee aka 稀饭 for Mishu.I remember the last time I cooked congee is when she was less than 2 years old.When she started solid food,I feed her rice,paste and meat instead ,totally forget about this healthy and simple meal until she was sick last week.I always have spare dried oyster,dried scallop and abalone in my freezer.Mishu hate dried scallop coz the fiber stick to her teeth.Maybe I should cook plain congee but what should I do with all the dried oyster I have?.How about some oyster and pork porridge?


1 cup calrose rice(sushi rice)

1 liter water

1 carrot (peel and cut)

500 gm minced pork

1 cup dried oyster

2 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp corn flour

few dash black pepper

1 tbsp sesame oil


1:Wash rice in sauce pot and cook with water for 30 minutes or until rice breaks down and becomes a fairly viscous white porridge .Meanwhile add in cut carrot.

2:Mix soy sauce,corn flour and pepper into minced pork,let is marinated for 10 minutes .Wash dried oyster with warm water ,add in the breakdown porridge,then add in minced pork.Let's it cook until rolling boil before drizzling with sesame oil.Add salt to taste.Ready to serve warm.


You can add carrot or sweet potatoes or celery to make your congee taste nature sweet.Actually you can add some sliced ginger or chicken or fish or anything you like to your congee.A simple ,easy meal to cook yet taste delicious!.Porridge is one of the easiest ways to digest rice or grains, and is used traditionally in many cultures as a food to nurse the sick back to health.

This congee is surely flavorful with the addition of dried oysters! Congee is a family comfort food! :)

mmmm I like this kind of porridge. Look so soft with plenty of 'liew' Wish I can have a bowl now :)

yum!! Especially with the addition of dried oysters. Its a comfort bowl of porridge to me.

I love the combo of pork and oysters. I don't eat much congee, although looking at this picture, I don't know why I don't. Oh, probably because nobody at home makes it. Always seemed to be harder than turning on the rice cooker. ;)
