Braised Corn Beef With Cabbage,Carrot and Red Potato

When is the right time to braised corn beef for your family? For me,I braised corn beef once a year during St Patrick Day only!! This year I mixed the spices on my own but hubby complaint about the cinnamon stick and star anise that I tossed in with the rest of spices.I took the idea from Alton Brown's Food Network but he said the flavor is too powerful and not what he used to it.Well,I should know better hubby dislike too much flavor or strong flavor in his meal.Anyway, the corn beef is so tender and buttery soft.

5 lbs corn beef
1 head green cabbage about 2 lbs
6 medium red potato, scrub and cut into 4 pieces each
1 cup baby carrot
6-7 cloves garlic,peeled
3-4 tbsp vegetable oil

3 liters water

1 stick cinnamon
2 star anise
1 tbsp coriander powder
1 tsp ground ginger powder
1 tsp ground black pepper
2 tbsp beef bouillon powder
1 tsp peppercorn

1:Prepare water in large stock pot at high heat.Place corn beef in the stock pot. When water bubbly boil, reduced heat to low.Simmer corn beef for 3 hours.
2:Heat large iron cast stock pot with oil , cinnamon ,anise star and garlic.Fry for 30 seconds, then toss in red potato, baby carrot and the broth from the stock pot.Simmer for 20 minutes before toss in green cabbage and  all the spices, mix well.
3:Cook the vegetables for another 10 minutes .Add on corn beef into the pot, cook for another 10 minutes.Check the seasoning.
4:Remove stock pot from heat.Dish out and serve warm.
