Honey BBQ Chicken Wing with Five Spices Powder 五香粉

There are plenty of BBQ recipe and ready to use sauce out there. But to create our own unique and special BBQ recipe is priceless, right? Last New Year party I bought a ready to eat BBQ wings from frozen section in supermarket, the price is not cheap at all!! These days fresh chicken wing is not longer cheap but at least we can stretch our dollar further by making the wings our self. Recently I shop at Asian market in NYC and the middle section chicken wings is on sale at $1.50 a pound!! Usually whole chicken wing is about $1.99 a pound. $1.50 a pound is a deal, right? So I bought 3 pounds home with me and make BBQ Wing!

3 pounds chicken wings (middle section)

1 tbsp five spices powder ( 五香粉)

2 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp salt

1 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp cooking wine

1 tbsp hoisin sauce (海鲜酱)

*combine above seasoning in Ziploc bag and marinate with chicken wings overnight*

For glazing:

2 tbsp Maltose

2 tbsp honey

2 tbsp warm water

1:Marinate chicken wings with above seasoning in Ziploc bag for 2-3 hours or overnight.

2:Preheat oven at 425 F. Prepare aluminum foil over large baking sheet ( to minimize scrubbing baking sheet/tray)

3:Lay marinated chicken wings over baking sheet over aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

4:Mix maltose with honey with 2 tbsp warm water in a small bowl, then brush over the wings, change setting to broil ,broil for another 3 minutes.

5:Remove wings from oven and serve warm as snack or appetizer.

You can eat as it's but hubby love to dip the wing with blue cheese dressing.

Those look delicious indeed! You were right, chicken wings is getting expensive and no more on sales here. I used to buy chicken wings to BBQ whenever it went on sales, but these recent few years, the price hadn't dropped since. :(

Love chicken wings, yummy and easy to handle. I like to mix chopped lemon grass with chicken wings and keep in freezer till I want to cook. Chicken wings will be scented with lemon grass. When I'm ready to cook, I just simply marinate chicken wings with fish sauce, sesame oil and white pepper for 30 minutres and deep fry. It's so yummy
